Pickleball is a sport that many Wichitans enjoy. It transcends age, gender, race, and socio-economic background. The need for public pickleball courts has continued to increase as more people in our community discover this amazing, highly addictive sport. Besides, the need for courts, we need public courts with lights so players can play in the evenings when the weather is much cooler.

We are asking for two of the lighted tennis courts at Edgemoor Park to be converted into six pickleball courts. This will benefit our community in several ways.

 

• The additional courts will give us a total of 12 pickleball courts at Edgemoor Park which will be great for holding pickleball tournaments and other events. These tournaments and events have the potential to bring good revenue to the city.

 

• The lighted courts will allow players to continue to play even after sunset, which is important specially during the summer time when it is too hot to play during the day.

 

• Currently, there are no lighted pickleball courts available to the public so those with limited resources cannot play in the evenings.

 

• The ever increasing popularity of the sport has made it so that there are not enough lighted pickleball courts available to rent even for those who have the means to rent them.

 

• There are many lighted tennis courts that are available for tennis players but the demand for pickleball courts far exceeds the number of courts (lighted or otherwise) that are available to the pickleball community.

 

• The city needs to keep up with the demand for pickleball courts in order to encourage the people in our community to lead active, healthy lifestyles which in turn improves the quality of life for everyone in our community.
