The issue

Dear Council,

We, The Crestwood Community would like to request council to Install Light Towers at the Crestwood Dog Park and or walk way around the dog park.

We are writing you as concerned members of our community and frequent visitors to the Crestwood Dog Park or Crestwood Park walkway. With the onset of winter, the early darkness has become a significant issue, making it challenging for the local residents to use the park after work hours. Currently, it becomes dark around 5 PM, which is well before many community members finish their workday.

As a result, the park is often left unused during the evening, depriving both the dogs and their owners of a valuable community resource.
The installation of light towers at the Crestwood Dog Park would greatly benefit our community in
several ways:

1. Safety: Adequate lighting is crucial for the safety of both the dogs and their owners.
Proper Lighting would prevent accidents likely to be caused by poor visibility and reduce the risk
of any undesirable unsafe activities that may occur when it’s dark.
2. Community Bonding: The dog park is a social hub where local community meet, interact and share experiences which strengthen the community bonds. Evening visits to the park provide an opportunity for community members to unwind and connect after a busy day. By
extending the usable hours of the park, we can foster a stronger, more connected community.
3. Well-being of Dogs: Exercise is essential for a dog’s physical and mental well-being. A
well-exercised dog is generally calmer and healthier. This is very much required for there growth. Providing a safe, well-lit environment in the evenings will allow owners to ensure their pets get the necessary exercise, leading to happier and more well-adjusted dogs.
4. Increased Utilisation of Public Spaces: The Crestwood Dog Park is a valuable public
space that should be accessible to all visiting residents at convenient times. Installing light towers will ensure that this facility can be used to its full potential, promoting outdoor activities and
community engagement.
5. Avoiding Dog Walking in the Dark: Without proper lighting at the park, dog owners are
forced to walk their pets on dark streets, which poses significant safety risks. Well-lit parks would provide a secure alternative, reducing the need for late-night street walks and enhancing overall community safety.
In support of this request, we have attached a petition signed by numerous residents who share
these concerns and are in favour of installing light towers at the Crestwood Dog Park. The signatures
collected on the accompanying sheet demonstrates the community’s strong support for this initiative and the much needed required and upgradation of the current Crestwood Dog Park.
We kindly request the council to consider the installation of light towers at the Crestwood Dog Park.
This enhancement would significantly improve the quality of life for the local Crestwood residents, their fur babies and other visiting residents. I am confident that this investment in our community’s infrastructure will yield positive outcome for both the council and the community.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. We are looking forward to your favourable response.
Yours sincerely
