Dear Friends of Sea-Eye,
35 years ago today, the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child was adopted, guaranteeing children around the world the right to protection and life. Although more countries have signed up for this Convention than any other, we are still witnessing children losing their lives on the world's deadliest escape route.
The violent isolation policies of EU member states have cost thousands of refugees their lives in recent years. Children are the most affected, with more than 1,500 children having drowned in the Mediterranean since 2018. This fills us with immense sadness and anger.
Watch the film "Like a Fish" now
I myself am the father of a nine-year-old daughter. The film therefore touched me personally. We need to recognize that children's rights are not just a theoretical concept, and that all of us are not only responsible, but also capable of acting together. We can do something and overcome anger together. We must never accept what is unacceptable. It is therefore clear to us that no child should drown in the Mediterranean or have to fight for their survival at our borders! Since 2016, we have saved more than 18,000 people from drowning - including many children and young people. By supporting Sea-Eye, you are also helping to protect the lives of children on the move.
Yours
Gorden Isler, Chairman Sea-Eye e. V.
