We've had quite the stressful mission so far!
Within a very short time period, three emergency calls had reached SEA-EYE 4. Our crew found the first boat on Wednesday afternoon and safely took 74 people, including 22 children, on board.
The bridge of SEA-EYE 4 was informed about another boat in distress from another distress call. The crew searched tirelessly for the 90 people all night on Thursday, unfortunately to no avail. The search finally had to be stopped because a third distress call with exact coordinates was reported. But before the SEA-EYE 4 could reach the boat, the so-called Libyan Coast Guard intercepted the fleeing people and dragged them back to the civil war country.
The SEA-EYE 4 is now looking for a port of safety with 106 refugees aboard. Malta has already refused to accept those seeking protection. The Pope will visit the Mediterranean island on Saturday. The government of Malta seems to actively and deliberately be ignoring the Pope's appeals to protect the rights of people fleeing.
Please support the refugees on board the SEA-EYE 4. Demand a safe port for them on social media and – if you can – donate to our rescue operations with the SEA-EYE 4 so that people who have to flee across the Mediterranean don't drown.
Yours, Gorden Isler
