Students at SSTS have been falsely informed about how the school views Maori as a subject. They stated during the tour/application stage that at this school we support the usage of Maori and can see the need for the subject to be used within education. Personally from my experience and the feedback from fellow students attending the school, they have only ever seen Maori being taught at Level 1 & Level 2 which to me seems wrong since there is no Level 3 Maori class being offered to the students. With Maori classes being offered at Level 3 it will educate the students on different morals/values as well as finding out who you are which is statistically proven to have a positive impact on not just students but everyone's well-being as a whole. It includes but is not limited to Physical, Mental, Social, and Spiritual strategies which help focus on all 4 sides of your well-being, it also provides practical/theoretical work that helps educate students to be more reflective on their selves as they compare themselves from what is taught in their first known language and see the evolution they have made in Te Reo Maori.
