Let NSW Students Watch the Socceroos: A Moment to Inspire a Generation

Petition to NSW Premier Chris Minns and Education Minister Prue Car

Victoria’s Education Minister, Ben Carroll, has encouraged Victorian schools to allow students to watch the Socceroos’ crucial FIFA World Cup match at midday this Friday.

We call on NSW Premier Chris Minns and the NSW Government to show the same support for our national team and allow schools across New South Wales to give students the opportunity to watch the match together.

The Socceroos represent Australia on the world stage. Their achievements unite communities, inspire young people, and promote values such as teamwork, resilience, determination, and national pride.

Friday is traditionally a day when schools celebrate sport, participation, and community spirit as students head into the weekend. Allowing children to watch the Socceroos is not just about football—it is about sharing a uniquely Australian moment together.

Major sporting occasions create lifelong memories. Many adults still remember watching historic Olympic moments, cricket triumphs, and World Cup matches during their school years. Today’s students deserve the same opportunity.

Watching the Socceroos together can:

Encourage participation in sport and healthy lifestyles.
Build school spirit and community connection.
Celebrate Australian achievement on the global stage.
Create positive and memorable learning experiences.
If Victorian students can share in this moment, NSW students should be able to as well.

We urge Premier Chris Minns and the NSW Government to support schools in allowing students to watch the Socceroos this Friday and help foster the Aussie spirit that brings us together.

Sign this petition to show your support for NSW students being part of this special national occasion.
