Let Musheerah Stay

The Issue

Hello. My name is Musheerah. I am 17 years old and recently, my world was shattered.

I was born in raised in Toronto, ON, Canada. I’ve lived in the same place for 15 years of my life. I’ve made millions of memories and have had life changing experiences here. It’s where I got my first pet fish, where I learned to ride a bike, and where I got my first job. It was here that I grew into the person I am today.

A week ago, my parents delivered some news to me that destroyed me. They bought a house. In the suburbs. The suburbs, where nothing interesting ever happens and where racism prevails. As a person of colour, this is (obviously) not a smart decision. Not only am I worried about the community in the suburbs, I am petrified of leaving my school, my friends, and everything I have built. I cannot go.

Thankfully, I’ve thought of many solutions. For instance, I can stay with a friend, who happens to have a spare room in her house, or I can travel via GO Train every day to attend school. Some of my options may be excessive, but it must be done. Now all I need is your help. With just 10,000 signatures (as per Mr. Wendler’s recommendation) I may have a better chance of convincing my parents to allow me to stay at my high school. Please, if you have taken time out of your day to read through my story, take another minute to sign this petition. It would mean the world to not only me, but my friends, who sobbed when I told them the terrible news. Thank you.

Also Vicky and Abby said they’d kill themselves if I leave and I don’t think anyone wants a double suicide case on their hands. That wouldn’t be good, now would it?
