Legalize the Enforcement of a 5150 in the State of Texas

The Issue

Mental health is a cause that is very close and dear to my heart, inspired by someone special who, unfortunately, struggles with it and refuses to seek help voluntarily. Mental health issues require immediate attention and tailored interventions, making it even more pertinent that the enforcement of a 5150 law be made legal in the state of Texas. 5150 is a California law that allows for a person with a mental illness to be involuntarily detained for a 72-hour psychiatric hospitalization if it's believed that the person is a danger to themselves or others. Texas, however, does not have this provision. An estimated 1 in 5 adults in Texas experience a mental health condition each year (Source: Mental Health America). That's over 4.7 million people who could potentially benefit from this law. The time to act is now. Emphasise compassionate and responsible care for our community. Please sign this petition to urge our lawmakers to legalize the enforcement of a 5150 in Texas. Your support today could potentially save lives in the future.
