As a woman and mother of a little girl, I want the freedom and ability to go out in public or travel without fears of being a victim to criminal violence. Due to the rising criminal violence and frequent stabbings/domestic violence in Melbourne, women no longer feel safe to travel, go out in public, or run daily errands. We demand legal defence mechanisms like pepper spray in Victoria as they are available in other states of Australia. Public violence is becoming a daily occurrence and without having the ability to carry anything for protection, I fear the situations may worsen. It's time we enforce stricter penalties on those who commit these crimes and change laws to ensure women's safety.
