Here in the UK, we are supposed to be a first world, accepting, non-discriminatory country. We accept lesbian, gay, bi, trans, queer, intersex and asexual people. But there is one group that have long been ignored by our country and it’s legal system. Non binary people.

On legal documents, there are 2 options. Male and female. No in between. People are forced to decide which way they can lie about being, male or female, one untruthful statement or another. These people are not male or female. They are beyond the binary social structure. Gender isn’t black and white. Even black and white photos have grey areas.

For example; me and my brilliant, gorgeous void friend. Every step they take towards living their truth is hindered by the government. I personally am also non binary, but in a way that instead of not having gender I have multiple. This doesn’t affect me as much, seeing as neither of these options is wrong, but other people don’t have a gender and are hurt by this. I will never marry my void friend, because a marriage certificate would be a lie. The wrong gender in print once more.

We need to stop this. We need a third option.
