Leave No Iraqi Ally Behind

Leave No Iraqi Ally Behind

The Issue

Since the 2003 fall of Baghdad, many thousands of Iraqis, glad to be rid of Saddam Hussein and hopeful about what the Americans might help them accomplish, turned up at American bases and offered their services as interpreters, as well as impromptu intelligence agents and cultural consiglieres.

Insurgent groups immediately set to work discrediting these American-affiliated Iraqis, who they tarred as "traitors" or "collaborators." They targeted them with death threats, kidnapped and tortured many, and killed hundreds with knives, bullets, car bombs, and suicide bombers.

Now, as the United States moves ahead with the withdrawal of some 50,000 combat troops from Iraq by the end of August 2010, these Iraqis will be left without protection from violent groups, such as the Islamic State in Iraq, who've made clear their intent to settle scores as the troop draw-down proceeds.

Will you call on President Obama to fufill America's moral obligation to U.S.-affiliated Iraqis by offering them speedy resettlement in the United States?

Time is running out. Please act today!
