On Tuesday night, the City Council voted to confirm their decision to settle the Altounian & Witmer McKinley Development lawsuit. Block the Box would like to thank Aldermen Ray Buschmann and Nancy Novit, for being the voices of logic and law on the Council these past two months. They questioned the wisdom of giving away City land for free, of hiding the fact that the Library would lose their 8 parking spaces, and of weakening the standing of our Historic Preservation Commission.
The developers will close on the property February 17.
The Deal:
City/taxpayer owned 1/2 acre will sell for $250,000.
The City will reimburse the developers up to $250,000 to bury power lines.
The developer is no longer obligated to build an affordable housing unit but will pay $72,000 to a housing trust.
The Library will lose 8 additional parking spots and the green space previously promised to them.
This didn’t just impact a neighborhood.
