L&T Infotech "Rejection" of 1000+ Recruits
The Issue
L&T Infotech has refused to give the joining date to more than 1000 fresher recruits all over India. These candidates have been selected through the on-campus interview in 2014. L&T Infotech had sent them the offer of intent along with the salary structure, they were asked to accept the offer. It has been informed that the candidates will get the joining date on a random basis as per the company requirement.
L&T Infotech had even conducted a session with these fresher candidates along with their parents. The Company has assured to provide better training, facility and job security. While some of the candidates were given joining dates, around 1000 + candidates were asked to appear for an online assessment test which was nowhere mentioned in the Offer of Indent. We can see this step as just an excuse to reject these candidates. Most of these candidates who appeared the exam were rejected and not given joining dates. It is more than one year, which these candidates have lost from their career. As per the internal process, colleges had not allowed them to appear other interviews after receiving offer from one company. Thus, they have lost the rest of the opportunities as well.
We are requesting L&T Infotech to offer jobs to these candidates and maintain the corporate ethics. We demand state and central governments to interfere in this matter and resolve it. These candidates are the talents of our country and our government MUST stand beside them.

Ms.Anitha(name changed), aged 25 years she got recruited for an MNC named Larsen & Toubro Infotech. As a first graduate of her family, she had many dreams to be achieved working in such a company. She received her offer of intent after a couple of months from the date of recruitment and was eagerly waiting for her date of joining. Since the company has already mentioned that date of joining will be given to students in random basis based on their business requirements, she was waiting for her turn to arrive meanwhile some of her friends who attended the recruitment drive received their date of joining. she received a mail from L&T stating her tentative joining month.
Seeing this she was waiting for her exact joining date but 6 months passed away. She also requested many queries in L&T portals for which the company asked her to wait for joining date. Months passed away and suddenly a mail came from L&T stating that she have to report for an assessment test based on which her joining will be decided. She attended the online assessment test after which she waited for more than fifteen days and finally a mail of rejection were sent to her stating that her performance in that test does not meet the selection criteria so her offer of intent stands canceled. This Tragedy does not restrict withMs.Anitha, it extends up to about 1000+ candidates recruited by L&T infotech .
Yes! This is the situation of more than thousand candidates who got selected for a well known MNC named Larsen & Toubro Infotech, a subsidiary of Larsen & Toubro that came to various colleges across India for recruiting students for their organization. In 2014 of September candidates got placed in L&T Infotech and were given assurance that they will have the best future in L&T Infotech. They were not allowed to attend other companies after getting placed in L&T because of their college rules. All the candidates finished their studies in the year 2015. Students received their offer of intent with a payment slip in a span of 3 months after their recruitment along with a user id and password. Candidates were asked to sign the offer of intent and mail it back to the company just to assure that they accept the offer sent .
Later after completion of their studies(after May'15), they started giving call letters with a date of joining to the selected candidates but in a random manner.During June of 2015 candidates were invited to a session meeting along with their parents where mention to parents who gathered out there by consoling them to send their son/daughter to the allotted training location irrespective of their choice. They said so in order to give a belief that L&T infotech provides good training, facility and job security for all candidates. But till the end of session meet they didn’t convey any single word about candidates joining. They conveyed that training center for this academic year batch will be in Mumbai and Chennai and there will call 400 people per month in which first 200 will be trained in Mumbai and other 200 will be trained in Chennai.
In July 2015 candidates received their tentative months of joining after which called for joining on a random basis and they never followed the tentative month of joining which they sent. Candidates . Meanwhile, mails were sent to candidates denoting that they have to upload all their personal documents and certificates in the portal in the format they send then and there. Even though the company did not follow the tentative month sent to candidates and they called them by some random order till November of 2015 after which they stopped calling and communicating with candidates regarding their date of joining.
For the next 3 months, the communication mail from L&T regarding the date of joining was not sent and candidates were assured that they will be called for sure and asked them to wait patiently. Later after 3 months of the gap they sent a mail during March of 2016 stating about a test called “Assessment test” which have to be taken by all IT and Non-IT students who didn’t receive their date of joining. L&T provided an registration link for all candidates through the mail and asked their location preference to come and attend the test. Candidates were also sent a link where they have to fill their details and get their hall ticket generated for the assessment test. And this hall ticket generation was not done by L&T but a third party called His mentor was linked to candidates through L&T mail for registering and getting their hall ticket. After the generation of hall ticket, it was stated clearly that joining will be based on their performance and the offer of intent will be canceled automatically for people who didn’t register or attend the test.
This test was conducted on March 17 th 2016,10 A.M in various centers across India such as Chennai, Banglore, Kolkata, Pune and Bhopal. They listed few topics through the mail to get prepared for the assessment test and candidates had only 12 days of time to prepare and they all appeared for the test without any training or training material to get themselves prepared for the test. But this assessment test was not conducted for any of the batches, who got placed with them in the same recruitment drive. In the L&T portal, the company uploaded a PDF in which assessment test FAQ’S where given from which candidates came to know that the test questions will be in a pattern of multiple choice format and nothing else they stated regarding the test rules.
On the day before the online assessment test, some rules were first displayed for them in which a red color marked words were mention that the test consists of negative markings. The questions asked in the assessment test was nowhere nearer to test the basic knowledge of the students as mentioned in their mail subjected to assessment. It was a test that should be set for experienced candidates and not for freshers hailing from both IT and Non-IT streams with zero exposure to the real time scenario or its implications. Candidates had no option, other than appearing for the test as stated in a clause that they would be eliminated if they chose not to do so.
Candidates waited for 15 days for their response towards the assessment test conducted. They sent mails to some people stating they are shortlisted, which will make just 10% of the candidate count appeared for the test. From April 3 rd to 7 th of 2016 L&T Infotech started sending mails to candidates across India who attended the test stating that their performance in that test does not meet the selection criteria so their offer of intent stands canceled.
