Kigame Has My Vote

Kigame Has My Vote

The Issue

The Kenyan Electorate is being denied an opportunity to choose a presidential candidate of their choice by Higher powers operating within the IEBC. The electoral body that the Constitution tasks to be a referee has taken sides.

We call upon Kenyans of goodwill to say NO! to IEBC tricks and lies and call them to account.

President Reuben Kigame has the interest of Kenyans at heart, with a track record that is not tainted or corrupted.

Chebukati has refused to obey Court orders issued by Justice Mrima and resulting to blackmail and intimidation.

President Reuben Kigame Statement: -

I have learnt with dismay of the objections raised by the IEBC concerning the ruling made by the High Court on Monday 18th, directing it to accept and consider my nomination documents, as a candidate for President of the Republic of Kenya.

I note the various protests made by the IEBC concerning this ruling, including the purported cost it would entail to place my name and that of my running mate on the ballot.

I wish at this point to remind the IEBC of the following:
- That as part of the presidential nomination process, I presented my papers to the IEBC on Wednesday, 25th May this year, at the Bomas of Kenya
- That the IEBC directed me to return on Sunday 29th May, to complete the process
- That I did present myself once again at the Bomas of Kenya on Sunday 29th May, as
directed, with all my nomination documents
- That despite arriving at the Bomas of Kenya at 1pm, the Returning Officer Mr Wafula
Chebukati, and his team, failed to meet with me and instead kept me waiting for nine hours,
until 10pm that night
- Further, neither Wafula Chebukati nor his team accepted to meet my team and I in the days
following, to complete the nomination process, despite our concerted efforts to secure a
meeting at the IEBC headquarters in Nairobi
- Thus, my nomination documents remain unprocessed and in my possession to date, having
not been received by IEBC until today

I am therefore appalled that the same Mr Chebukati and his team would now state that it would cost too much time and resources to place my name and that of my running mate on the ballot, despite the fact that the responsibility for the delay in processing my papers falls squarely on Mr Chebukati’s desk.

Further, I wish to remind Mr Chebukati that, in its ruling, the High Court cited Article 54 of the Constitution of Kenya, which clearly provides persons living with disability the right to be treated with dignity and respect. It also places on the state a responsibility to progressively ensure that at least five percent of Kenyans in elective and appointive bodies are persons living with disability.

I wish to challenge the IEBC to seriously reflect and consider if it can truthfully say that it has endeavored to attain these two fundamental principles in the handling and processing of my application.

Further, I call upon the IEBC to act fairly and commit to processing my registration as a bona fide candidate in this election, as enshrined in our constitution and guaranteed to myself and other persons seeking elective position in our country.
