Keep the Stanley Cup in Canada During Trade War

The Issue

As a patriot and supporter of Canadian hockey who truly defends the motto "True Patriot Love in all of us command," I feel it prudent to protect our national treasures during this period of international turmoil. This petition is directed towards the Dominion Hockey Challenge Cup Trust, its Trustees and the Hockey Hall of Fame including Directors; Lanny, MacDonald, Jason Farris, Stephen Holyday, Stewart Johnston, Katherine Henderson, Geoff Molson, Paul Ainslie, Lino Saputo, Anthony Perruzza, and Laurence Tanenbaum, urging them to consider maintaining the Stanley Cup on Canadian soil amidst the current trade war initiated by the United States of America.

Lord Stanley initially intended the Dominion Hockey Challenge Cup Trust to ensure its legacy as the prize for the championship hockey team in Canada. In keeping with this directive, it is pertinent to keep the Cup, in all of it’s iterations, on Canadian soil, especially now, when our national interests are under direct threat due to the trade war.

The President of the United States started this trade war, which has and will continue to severely impact economic sectors on both sides of the US/Canada border.  This strain extends beyond trade and imbricates other facets of our bilateral relations, potentially including our treasured cultural and sporting exchanges.

In light of these circumstances, we must not lose sight of the importance of keeping the Dominion Hockey Challenge Cup within its rightful home, Canada, for the time being. Its place belongs here on Canadian soil, continuing the legacy that Lord Stanley started until further notice.

I humbly request your support in maintaining this significant part of our national identity by appealing to the Dominion Hockey Challenge Cup Trust and its Trustees to uphold Lord Stanley’s vision to retain this prized award in Canada for the time being. Your signature can make a significant difference in championing this cause. Thank you for your time and consideration.
