Keep South Sydney Rabbitohs Out of Moore Park

Keep South Sydney Rabbitohs Out of Moore Park
The issue
Moore Park has been the spiritual home of the only foundation club in the NRL. Since 1908, the Sydney Roosters have remained loyal to this venue, always honoring its historical significance for the club and its passionate fans. However, there is now a growing concern that the South Sydney Rabbitohs, having previously moved to Homebush, are now eyeing Moore Park and Allianz Stadium for their own. This move would betray those of us who cherish the traditions and history of the precinct.
For decades, the South Sydney Rabbitohs have set their sights elsewhere, yet they seem to want the prestige and home ground advantage of Moore Park without earning it. In my opinion this should not just be about blocking the Rabbitohs from playing at Allianz Stadium. This is about stopping ANY TEAM from ANY CODE to relocate to Allianz Stadium full time. Allianz Stadium currently plays host to Sydney FC, Roosters and the Waratahs - as well as the Socceroos, Matilda’s, Wallabies, Sydney FC W & Roosters W… that’s a minimum of 8 teams already calling Allianz home. Plus add in the multiple concerts held at the venue throughout the year. The stadium cannot handle the current workload it is under and that is evident by the quality of the pitch (especially during wet weather). The NSW Government needs to protect its own investment and ensure the stadium doesn’t deteriorate any faster just to make one club happy. The biggest rivalry in the NRL deserves its unique home grounds to separate the history each club has forged in its particular territories.
Additionally, the geographical junior base allocations are unjust. Currently, the Rabbitohs have 16 junior clubs, three of which encroach upon the Roosters' territory. Meanwhile, the Sydney Roosters are left with only three junior clubs. This imbalance must be addressed to preserve the integrity and traditional boundaries of the clubs, allowing them to nourish their junior bases fairly and effectively.
It is crucial that we take a stand to maintain the integrity of Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, preserving it for the Sydney Roosters and their supportive community. Moving the Rabbitohs into Moore Park minimizes the importance of historical loyalty and could irreversibly change the atmosphere and significance of this legendary rivalry.
Sign this petition to voice your support against the Rabbitohs' move to Moore Park and to advocate for the return of the rightful junior bases to the Sydney Roosters.
