Keep Snapchat Memories Free for Everyone

The Issue

Snapchat has been more than just an app — it’s where millions of people safely store their most important memories. Photos of friends, videos of family milestones, and moments that can never be recreated are kept here, often for years.

Now, Snapchat is rolling out a new update that limits free “Memories” storage to only 5 GB. This change is unfair, unnecessary, and threatens to delete countless irreplaceable photos and videos. Many users, especially younger people or those who cannot afford paid storage, will be forced to lose memories that they trusted Snapchat to keep safe.

This isn’t just about storage space — it’s about our personal history, our connections, and the emotional value of the moments we’ve captured. Memories are not a luxury — they belong to everyone, and everyone deserves the ability to preserve them. Forcing users to pay to keep their memories could drive many loyal Snapchat users away, leaving the platform with fewer active members and a damaged reputation.

We, the Snapchat community, respectfully ask Snapchat to:

1️⃣ Cancel the 5 GB storage limit entirely and keep Memories free for all users.

2️⃣ Protect all existing memories and ensure they remain permanently accessible without forcing payment.

3️⃣ Prioritize user trust over revenue: Memories are personal and irreplaceable. Free access to Memories should remain a core part of Snapchat’s service.

4️⃣ Communicate transparently about any future updates, but never delete user content as a way to drive revenue.

No one should have to choose between paying for storage or losing the moments that define their lives. Snapchat has the power to protect millions of memories and show that it values its users.

⚠️📣 Sign this petition to urge Snapchat to keep Memories free for everyone and protect the emotional legacy of its community. Together, we can ensure that our memories remain safe, accessible, and free — because they are priceless.📣⚠️
