Keep PLT the same in SD38

Keep PLT the same in SD38
The Issue
Richmond School District (SD38) is trying to change our PLT schedule. They want to make PLT happen during second block instead of first, and to require all students to sign up. There is also a risk of it being removed completely. This is unfair to both students and teachers. They also want to make the times weird. Each regular block will be 68 minutes and each PLT block will be 48 minutes for PLT days. Days will start at 8:30 and first block will run from 8:30-9:38, then PLT will happen from 9:43-10:31 and so forth. How does this make sense? It’s overall very inconvenient and impossible to memorize what should be a basic everyday schedule. The idea of PLT is personal learning time, meaning each student can ask teachers for help. With this change, it will make it harder for the students to get help and harder for the teachers to help their students. Plus, you can only sign up for one teacher who is your teacher that semester. This will just make the lives of students and teachers stressful and complicated for no reason. This goes against SD38’s motto of “the focus is on the learner.” Please consider spreading the news and getting your friends and parents to sign. Thank you.
