Keep Nicole Sunseri as Holy Name of Mary Catholic Secondary School’s CYW

Keep Nicole Sunseri as Holy Name of Mary Catholic Secondary School’s CYW
The Issue
We, the undersigned, oppose the relocation of Nicole Sunseri, an important and active member of our school community. We call on the superintendent, Wayne Brunson, the superintendent of Brampton North East to:
- overturn the proposed decision to relocate Nicole Sunseri
- fully take into account the unfavourable impact that this change will have on the school community
- allow Sunseri to finish the current school year at Holy Name of Mary
Nicole Sunseri has been at Holy Name of Mary for six months, during which time she has had a significant impact on the students and contributed to the development of a sense of community there. She provides a secure space for students to express their emotions and opinions, and she has gone above and beyond her job description to help students feel more stable and to enhance the school's activities. Sunseri has established plans to lead a girl group within the school and assists in running the dance team, the breakfast program, and the choir. The decision to relocate her is detrimental to the well-being of the students, as she is a voice of reason, truth and comfort.
Her kids see her as not only a lifeline but also as a friend. She has developed strong bonds with students who otherwise would not have opened up during her time here. Since so many of our students lack reliable support systems, moving her will be detrimental to their emotional health, particularly given how frequently teachers and CYWs are relocated from our school. A new CYW would be the fourth to work at the school in three years, which would be harmful to the wellness of the students who had just gotten used to and were comfortable with the present CYW.
Thus, Nicole Sunseri's departure from Holy Name of Mary is a choice that will be detrimental to the well-being of our student body—harm that our school board and superintendent ought to be working to protect against.
