Keep Mr. Cako at GCVI

Keep Mr. Cako at GCVI
The Issue
I am writing this petition with a heavy heart and deep concern for the future of Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute (GCVI). My name is Jasmine Arora, and I am privileged to serve as the student senate co-chair at GCVI. This role has given me the unique opportunity to work closely with our beloved principal, Mr. Cako, and witness firsthand the positive impact he has made on our school community. Mr. Cako's impending transfer, dictated solely by the Upper Grand District School Board (UGDSB) and not by his choice, has left us, the students and staff, in dismay.
Mr. Cako isn’t just a principal to us; he is an inspiration, a mentor, and a cheerleader for everyone at GCVI. His passion for education and unwavering support motivates each one of us to strive for excellence. He promotes a nurturing and inclusive environment that has transformed GCVI into more than just a school—it is a home for students and staff alike. His dedication goes beyond the call of duty, often spending personal hours with students to mentor and guide them through their academic and personal challenges.
The decision by the UGDSB to transfer Mr. Cako without regard for the opinions and needs of the GCVI community is a decision that overlooks the overwhelming wish of the students, parents, and staff who value his leadership immensely. It's crucial to understand that principals like Mr. Cako, who genuinely care and take action for the betterment of the school community, are rare.
We are respectfully urging the UGDSB to reconsider their decision. We propose an open dialogue between the school board, Mr. Cako, students, and parents to discuss the implications of this transfer and explore the possibility of allowing him to continue his invaluable work at GCVI.
Let us rally together, join our voices, and show the school board how much Mr. Cako means to us. Sign this petition to keep him at GCVI, where he rightfully belongs, making a difference every day in the lives of hundreds of students. Your signature can help change the course of our school’s future.
