The issue

As a retired swimming instructor, pool lifeguard and a member of the local Aqua Aerobics group, the prolonged closure of our community's Olympic pool has affected my own, and many others', health and wellbeing. Gloucester Olympic pool remains closed for more months of the year than it stays open, limiting our community’s access to crucial, low impact fitness opportunities.

Our pool is not just a place to cool off; it is a place where we train, teach and improve our health. Especially important to me and other users is the fact that it denies access to parents, and those under the support of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), the opportunity to teach swimming during the Easter school holidays - a period when temperatures in Gloucester have previously exceeded 31 degrees.

This, unfortunately, stands in the way of following the adage "Health is your best asset." as it prevents us from maintaining our physical health through such vital forms of exercise.

Considering these factors, I request support in urging the local authorities to extend the operation of Gloucester Olympic pool until after the Easter 2025 school holidays. This change will provide invaluable opportunities for fitness training, and crucially, for swim education during the school holidays. Let's take this step together for our community's health and wellbeing. Please add your voice by signing this petition.
