The Issue

I came to Alberta, Canada over 50 years ago. Most of my life I've spent as a proud Canadian, and I strongly believe in the unity and strength that comes from being a part of this great country. Alberta has always been a vital part of Canada’s fabric, contributing significantly to its economy, culture, and diversity. However, there is a growing movement that seeks to separate Alberta, making it an isolated, landlocked nation. This not only threatens our collective future but disregards the wishes of the First Nations who have firmly opposed this separatist movement.

Alberta stands at a crossroads. The idea of separation might seem appealing to some as a solution to economic and political grievances, but it poses significant risks, including economic instability and loss of Canadian identity. Economically, Alberta benefits greatly from being a province of Canada, with access to inter-provincial trade and international markets through collaborative federal agreements. Leaving this behind could result in severe economic consequences, potentially compromising our standard of living.

Furthermore, separating from Canada would isolate Alberta from the global community. With no direct access to coastlines, Alberta would find itself dependent on neighboring provinces and countries for trade routes and resources. This isolation could lead to increased costs and logistical challenges in accessing essential goods and services.

Most importantly, the separatist movement does not have the support of the Indigenous communities within Alberta. The First Nations have clearly stated they wish to remain part of Canada, aligning with their historical ties and commitments to the country. It is crucial that their voices are heard and respected in any such discussions, as they are fundamental stakeholders in Alberta's future.

We must stand together as Albertans, rejecting the idea of separation and embracing the strength that comes from unity within Canada. Our province has unparalleled potential not only to thrive but also to lead in creating a unified future for all Canadians. Let us focus on collaboration and building a successful future within Canada, a nation renowned for its inclusivity, strength, and prosperity.

Sign this petition to show your support for keeping Alberta part of Canada. Together, we can ensure our province remains a valuable and vibrant member of our nation. The strength is in the unity.
