The use of AI-generated advertisements and photos at Viterbo University have become unbearable. Our mascot logo has gotten an AI makeover, along with posters advertising school events. Information as simple as box office hours have been fed through AI. The recent use of AI in the advertising for "Kiss Me, Kate" has sparked a wave of anger, as the two featured performers did not consent to their likenesses being used alongside AI. Now that a video was made from two pictures, both of the actors' faces will remain in an AI database and train future AI bots. This is an unacceptable mistake that should not be taken lightly. 

We are a school filled with artists. We are taught to keep art alive every day, yet the university continues to use AI. We cannot remain silent and complicit while our artistry is ignored. Using AI at a performing arts conservatory is insulting. We, as students, need to put our foot down and make it clear that we will not tolerate our artistry being weakened. We are skilled enough to create art without a computer processing us. 

Currently, there is no policy against the use of AI in advertising. Students within the conservatory consent to images being used as taken, not as an AI interpretation. A policy needs to be created that protects us from nonconsentual AI usage for advertising, social media posts, and show programs. A theatre that uses AI in posts is not a theatre that will be taken seriously. Stop using AI to market our school.
