Give more time for networking the death-row dogs at ACS, San Antonio
The Issue
Animal Care Services ( ACS ) Division, City of San Antonio at 4710 State Hwy 151 San Antonio, TX 78227 killed around 4800 dogs last year.. SAPA a private 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization at present in partnership with ACS, is trying to make San Antonio a No-Kill city.. SAPA waits until shelters and other rescue groups pull who they can from ACS for their adoption programs- then posts the album for networking.. this comes on pretty late in the day ..
Many death-row dogs in the album that SAPA! publishes in their website in facebook is added on near midnight local time and they are sent to the kill-room at 9 am the next morning.. animal-lovers and caring public must have more time to properly network the animals in order to save more of these innocents.. animal-advocates/ cross-posters/ networkers cannot properly network animals in the middle of the night when the majority of the country is asleep.. NYACC used to release their list at 6pm and whatever was not placed by 6am was killed. They now release the list at 6pm and have until noon the following day. if ACS can give the final album by 5 pm and gives time till say 1 pm the next day definitely more pets can make it out.. at present, most of the larger dogs are dead by the morning session ..
Can ACS and SAPA have a group of volunteers/ staff manning phones/ mobiles for the death-row dogs.. at present there is only email contact available for SAPA and ACS.. the adopter/ rescue have no phone to contact in such a huge shelter .. SAPA has no phone and ACS phone goes to a voice-mail.. so if people want to contact urgently on the last minute wanting to adopt they cannot and the pet dies..
Most of the fearful dogs in the death-row album of ACS pets posted by SAPA are dead by the next morning.. any animal-lover can understand that these stray babies are afraid due to the noise and cries of other pets.. that is not a behavior issue but a perfectly normal behavior brought on by the circumstances of being pushed and pulled into vans by ACOs and other staff.. this is not a fault.. some pets turn aggressive and some turn fearful and this is to be understood as a reaction to the fearful shelter atmosphere.. the very same pets in a secure atmosphere will transform into a friendly loving pet.. can such pets be given more love and chances to be fostered in loving homes please? they deserve to live too..
Pit breeds are killed so fast irrespective of their sweet nature, gentleness, youth and friendliness.. please can they be given some love and time to be adopted too?
We request that the ACS reforms its shelter practices and streamline operation and become a sleek life-saving machine and help the homeless innocents in its care find loving homes.
