I am a volunteer coach for Collier County Girls on The Run. The girls have to come up with a community project every season and my team came up with creating a petition for equality for girls. These girls are 8 years old, and they see how gender equality affects our nation and they want their voices heard. They feel that your gender should not stand in the way of becoming whatever you want to become, that just because you are a boy or a girl, you should have equal rights, pay and respect if you are doing the job/activity correctly. They are a powerful group of 8 year olds and I am proud to be their coach this season. Here is what these girls wrote:

"Hello! We are the Girls on The Run at Seagate Elementry School in Naples, FL. We are writing this to stand against unequal treatment to girls. We believe that girls should deserve the same rights as men. Also, girls should not have to be put into 'extra skinny' clothes to make them look better on camera, and images in magazines should not have to use Photoshop to make them look what society thinks is 'beautiful'. Women also deserve equal pay as men. We also feel that there is no such thing as 'girls things' or 'boys things'. You can help us by signing the petition and sending this to people you know! Thank you for your support!"
