There are different rules for different provinces and territories in Canada regarding Remembrance Day and time off of work (excluding emergency/essential services). Moreover, there are certain organizations within areas the do not have November 11th off that close (i.e garbage pickup and government organizations).

In these times of COVID-19, the need for an extra day off or even the time to reflect on the freedoms we are blessed with is arguably more important. This seems like a reasonable opportunity to unite the nation and give thanks to our veterans. Also during covid with an extra day off, there could be an argument for decreased exposure to the virus if some of us have an extra "mandatory" day off. Again unfortunately excluding emergency and other essential services, whom would be compensated with holiday pay.

Under pre- and hopefully post-covid conditions, I would love to be able to attend ceremonies in various towns and cities across Canada. Having the day off would give me and my family the chance to do so.
