JusticeForSpanishWoman: Uphold the Law and Protect Tourists in India

The Issue

A horrific crime has shaken India. On Friday night, a foreign tourist named Nanda (name not officially released) was reportedly gang-raped by a group of men while traveling by bike with her husband near Dumka, Jharkhand. This heinous act occurred as the Prime Minister visited the state to discuss law and order, highlighting the urgent need for stricter measures.

Demanding Justice:

We demand a fair, swift, and transparent investigation under the following Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections:

Section 376: Punishment for rape (imprisonment for life, and shall not be less than ten years, and shall also be liable to fine)
Section 34: Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention (all those involved are held liable)
Additional charges may be pressed based on the investigation, such as wrongful confinement (Section 342) or criminal intimidation (Section 506).
Justice for Nanda and Support for Survivors:

We urge the authorities to apprehend all those involved and ensure they are held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. Nanda and her husband need immediate and comprehensive support, including:

Medical care: Physical and psychological trauma care is crucial for healing.
Trauma counseling: Professional support is essential to help them cope with the emotional impact.
Legal Aid: They deserve legal representation throughout the investigation and trial.
Aiding the Couple and Addressing Deportation Concerns:

There are disturbing reports that government agencies might attempt to deport Nanda and her husband within 24 hours. This could be a blatant attempt to suppress the case, especially considering the approaching elections. We strongly condemn such actions and urge the authorities to:

Prioritize a thorough investigationirrespective of the couple's immigration status.
Ensure their safety and well-beingthroughout this ordeal.
Facilitate their stay in India for as long as needed to assist with the investigation and court proceedings.
Beyond This Case: Improving Tourist Safety

This brutal attack exposes the vulnerability of tourists in India. We call for the government to take concrete steps to improve tourist safety, including:

Increased police patrolling in vulnerable areas, especially popular tourist destinations.
Stricter penalties for crimes against tourists.
Tourist helpline with multilingual support for emergencies and assistance.

Together, we can make a difference. Sign this petition and raise your voice for justice. Let us stand with Nanda, demand accountability, and work towards a safer India for all.
