The Issue

Three neglected horses were just rescued from a property near Buckeye, Arizona. One was severely underfed. Two miniature horses were found with hooves so overgrown they could barely stand. According to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, deputies had already visited this property twice before—offering help, providing resources, and warning the owners to take action.

But nothing changed. And these animals suffered because of it.

No animal should have to wait for justice. No horse should be left starving or in pain while officials decide whether neglect has gone too far. These horses didn’t get a second chance until they were already in crisis.

We’re calling on the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office and the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office to pursue full charges for animal cruelty under Arizona law. Offering help is important—but when that help is ignored, there must be consequences.

These horses deserve more than quiet removal. They deserve a public response that says what happened to them was wrong, that their suffering matters, and that animal neglect will not be tolerated in our state.

We’re also asking local leaders to support Arizona’s animal rescue organizations, who are seeing more and more cases like this as the cost of care rises. Groups like Arizona Equine Rescue and Lucky Break Rescue are doing everything they can—but they can’t do it alone.

Justice for these horses means accountability. It means early intervention. And it means recognizing that animals have a right to live without pain, hunger, or fear.

Please sign this petition to demand justice for the three horses rescued near Buckeye. Their story should be the last—not the latest—in a growing crisis of animal neglect.
