Justice for the Endangered Wolf Killed in Oregon

The Issue

In October 2025, an endangered gray wolf was found dead in the Yamsay Mountain area of southern Oregon—illegally killed on public land.

The wolf, known as OR-186, was being tracked by wildlife officials and wore a radio collar. He was part of Oregon’s fragile gray wolf population—a species still listed under the federal Endangered Species Act.

This killing wasn’t an accident. It was a deliberate act of cruelty and defiance of federal law—and unless we speak out, it could happen again.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Oregon Wildlife Coalition are now offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction. But that’s not enough. We need public pressure to ensure this crime is taken seriously—and that enforcement of wildlife laws is prioritized.

We’re calling on:

  • The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Oregon State Police to fully investigate and publicly report progress
  • Oregon lawmakers to ensure penalties for killing endangered species are enforced to the fullest extent
  • The public to treat OR-186’s death not as a headline—but as a call to defend every remaining gray wolf in Oregon

Wolves are vital to healthy ecosystems—and they deserve to exist without fear of being shot and left to die in silence. If we allow these killings to go unpunished, we risk losing not just a species, but the values of respect, protection, and wildness that wolves represent.

Sign this petition if you believe OR-186 deserves justice—and that killing an endangered animal should never go ignored.
