Justice for the 42 Abused Dogs in Hidalgo County — Strengthen Animal Protections Now

Justice for the 42 Abused Dogs in Hidalgo County — Strengthen Animal Protections Now
The Issue
Another heartbreaking case. Another home full of neglected, suffering dogs. And still, no serious action to stop the pattern.
On November 18, 2025, deputies in Hidalgo County recovered 42 dogs from a rural home in Mission, Texas. Six more were already dead. The dogs were malnourished, caged in filth, and left without basic care. This is at least the fifth animal hoarding case in Hidalgo County this year alone, following similar seizures of 54, 93, and even 100 animals in horrifying conditions.
Animal control officers, sheriff’s deputies, and local shelters are doing their best — but they’re stretched thin, and the crisis keeps growing. Shelters like Palm Valley Animal Society are overwhelmed. They take in hundreds of animals from cruelty cases every year, often without the staffing or space to keep up.
It should not take a neighbor reporting the smell of death for authorities to intervene. And it should not take dozens of dead or suffering animals for real change to happen.
We are calling on the Hidalgo County Commissioners Court, the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office, and the Texas Legislature to take urgent action by:
- Funding proactive animal welfare enforcement
- Creating a rapid-response cruelty task force
- Supporting local shelters with emergency resources
- Strengthening animal hoarding and neglect laws across Texas
Neglected dogs do not have a voice, but we do. Every one of these animals was capable of love, trust, and companionship. They deserved more than a cage, a chain, or a slow death.
Sign this petition to demand stronger laws, more resources, and real accountability to end animal cruelty in Hidalgo County. Let’s stop waiting until it's too late.
