Justice for Rashaud Johnson — Charge Officer Brandon Mills Now

Justice for Rashaud Johnson — Charge Officer Brandon Mills Now
The Issue
On May 12, 2025, 32-year-old Rashaud Johnson was shot and killed by Officer Brandon Mills in Aurora, Colorado. He was unarmed. He was in crisis. And his death was preventable.
Now, nearly three months later, no charges have been filed.
Rashaud’s parents have filed a lawsuit demanding answers — but they shouldn’t have to do this alone.
According to body camera footage, Officer Mills shot Rashaud twice in the chest after a scuffle, then stood over him with a drawn weapon as he lay bleeding on the ground. He waited nearly five minutes for another officer to arrive. He did not render aid. And only after handcuffing Rashaud’s lifeless body did he apply limited medical assistance.
Rashaud, a standup comedian, was barefoot and walking through a remote airport parking lot — the subject of five 911 calls asking for a welfare check due to possible mental health distress. Instead of care, he was met with a gun.
This isn’t just a tragedy. It’s a failure of policing, of crisis response, and of justice.
We, the undersigned, demand that District Attorney Brian Mason immediately bring charges against Officer Brandon Mills. We also call on the City of Aurora to publicly commit to reviewing its policies on mental health response and officer conduct.
No parent should have to stand in front of news cameras and plead for justice for their only child. No community should have to wonder if a 911 call for help might lead to a death. And no officer should be above the law.
Rashaud Johnson was loved. He mattered. And his death cannot be met with silence or delay.
Justice delayed is justice denied. Hold Officer Mills accountable — now.
