We finally have the autopsy and toxicology reports for my sister, Justine. As much as it pains me, I cannot fully comment on the details in these reports. What I will say is that the details fuel me to further believe that the narrative that my sister voluntarily took a bunch of wrong steps that night and chose to enter the trash chute room to plunge to her death voluntarily continues to persist. The guy who was with her admitted on record that she smoked something with him the night she died. The investigation, however, included nothing about asking him why he did not call for help for her that night and why he left her. If you have nothing to hide then why did you leave her when she had a bad reaction to the substances she used that night? Has common decency completely disappeared from the human race or am I wrong for wanting to at least know why he did not call for emergency services if he had nothing to hide?
To add insult to injury, even without releasing this guy's name to the public, I have received messages on social media about this guy from people who know that he was with my sister the night she died. That means that this guy talked about being with her that night. I cannot share the details of these messages, as I need to maintain the privacy of the brave people who reached out to me. I am forever grateful that they were compelled to share information about this guy with me. The things these people have said about him make me dislike him even more. He truly was not worthy of my sister spending her last night alive with him.
My family and I have to go on with our lives every day knowing that it can be okay for a guy to invite a girl over to his apartment, be seen on camera with her while she is having a bad reaction to substances, and not pay any consequences for being the last person she is seen with before she dies. The way the investigation was discussed solely puts the responsibility of my sister's death on her despite the delicate padding of the word "accident" being thrown into the report. There is so much implicit shaming that it makes me feel sick to my stomach to know that someone falling down the chute of the top floor of an apartment building is just considered an accident once substances are at play. Penn State's culture of pushing things under the rug is becoming more and more apparent to us every day. But then again if someone keeps believing that they did nothing wrong then why would they worry about getting into trouble? Right Ant........?
