A 22 years old woman who already had 3 daughters was pregnant with a 4th baby and died of complications following childbirth. She was pressurized by her family to keep producing babies till a boy is born. This patriarchal mindser does not even care if the mother dies in the process. In-laws and husbands of many women are actually killing women this way for want a boy.

Dr Archana Sharma, the Gynecologist on service, tried her best to save life of tge patient. When the mother could not be saved, the family members conveniently blamed it on the doctor. One local media and few local goons kept the body in front of hospital gate and gathered mob to harrass the doctor. The police came and went against all the existing guidelines of the Supreme Court, registering a case under section 302 against the treating doctor, without any investigation. A doctor who has saved lives all her life, when failed to save one despite all her sincere attempts, was labelled as murderer! On being assualted and humiliated, she got devastated and finally hanged herself to death. Her suicide, abated by the patient party, local media and goons and above all, the police authority, has shook the entire medical fraternity of the country. We, the aggrieved members of the fraternity, along with Dr Sharma's shattered family, want justice.

Association of Health Service Doctors, West Bengal, calls for a nation-wide protest against the perpetrators. We demand to the Hon'ble President & Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, the following -

 

1. Strictest punishment for committing criminal negligence of all the Govt officials concerned including police authority in accordance with appropriate IPC. Primarily they must get suspended.

2. The political leaders involved must be barred from attending assembly sessions, booked under rule of law and condemnation must reach the Hon'ble CM & Speaker of Rajasthan Legislative Assembly.

3. The Hon'ble High Court of Rajastgan may take suo moto cognizance of the incidence and act upon for violating Apex Court judgement.

4. The time frame of arriving at true justice must be fast tracked and not take more than one month, failing which all India strike will be called upon.

5. The State & National human rights commissions must take cognizance and act upon accordingly.

6. Public Health infrastructure in rural India must be given highest priorities by both the State & Union Govts to avoid future similar occurrence.

7. Consumerism & healthcare services must be critically reviewed.

8. Let NMC Chairman express the strongest note.

9. The Union Govt must consider framing stricter legal provisions to prevent assault on medical doctors and healthcare workers as well.
