In recent years, Muslims in India have increasingly faced:
Physical assaults, mob lynchings, and targeted violence solely because of their faith, often carried out without accountability.
Dismantling of Muslim homes, shops, and properties without notice or due process of law, frequently with the support or approval of local authorities.
Systematic humiliation of Islam through derogatory statements, hate campaigns, and deliberate insults to the sacred beliefs of Muslims. This includes abusive language directed against the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), which is a direct attempt to provoke, demean, and wound the sentiments of millions of believers.
Hate speech and propaganda designed to alienate Muslims socially, politically, and economically, creating a climate of fear and insecurity.
Government inaction and complicity, where authorities either fail to intervene or, in some cases, appear to endorse such discriminatory practices.
These actions constitute not just isolated incidents but a systematic pattern of discrimination and persecution in violation of India’s own constitutional principles, as well as international human rights standards, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (1966).
We therefore respectfully request the United Nations to:
Recognize the growing Islamophobia in India as a matter of urgent international concern.
Condemn deliberate insults against Islam and the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), which are designed to provoke violence and create division.
Call upon the Government of India to ensure protection of its Muslim citizens, uphold the rule of law, and prevent the misuse of state power against minorities.
Mandate independent investigations into incidents of targeted demolitions, assaults, and hate campaigns.
Appoint a UN Special Rapporteur to monitor, document, and report on Islamophobia and anti-Muslim discrimination in India.
Ensure accountability and justice for victims of religiously motivated violence and hate speech.
The silence of the international community risks legitimizing such discrimination and abuse. Timely intervention by the United Nations will send a clear message that insults to faith, attacks on homes, and violence against any community are unacceptable in a just and civilized world.
