Justice for Adesola - End Discrimination at St. Clair College.

Justice for Adesola - End Discrimination at St. Clair College.
The Issue
My name is Adesola, a second-year nursing student who came to Canada seeking education and a fair chance to rebuild my life.
In September 2023, while enrolled in the Collaborative Nursing Program at St. Clair College (Chatham Campus), I faced ongoing racial discrimination, humiliation, and emotional distress from a faculty member. She repeatedly mocked my accent in front of classmates, questioned my competence, and dismissed my concerns.
During my final exam, she entered the exam hall and whispered that I had failed another course — an act that left me shaken and unable to focus.
Two independent College Grade Appeal Panels later confirmed that the grading process was unfair and compromised, recognizing that this disruption and lack of institutional oversight likely affected my academic performance. Despite these official findings, no human-rights investigation or institutional accountability followed. Instead, I was left with academic damage, emotional trauma, and the loss of a lifelong dream to become a registered nurse.
Official Findings Confirmed Unfairness
Two separate Grade Appeal Panels — for NURS 2522 (Clinical Placement II) and NURS 2810 (Adult Health and Health Alterations) — both found that the grading process was unfair and compromised. The panels acknowledged that Professor’s disruption during my exam and the college’s mishandling of academic procedures had negatively affected my performance. They explicitly recognized that the process lacked fairness, accountability, and due diligence. Yet, despite these rulings in my favor, no one at St. Clair College took appropriate corrective or disciplinary action.
St. Clair College’s Negligence and Dismissive Conduct
- After the appeals, I filed multiple complaints describing the discrimination and emotional trauma I experienced. Instead of protecting me, the college assigned the same professor to manage my grade-review process, even after I had made it clear that I was uncomfortable and retraumatized by her presence.
- No impartial investigation was ever launched.
- No one from the college’s human-rights or academic-integrity offices reached out to hear my side.
- The administration ignored key evidence, minimized my experience, and treated my legitimate concerns with indifference and silence.
This failure to act violated St. Clair College’s own Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion commitments and breached its duty to provide a safe, respectful, and non-discriminatory learning environment. Because of the college’s negligence and dismissiveness, I lost academic standing, financial stability, and peace of mind.
I was left to navigate trauma, anxiety, and the burden of fighting for fairness — completely alone.
The Human Impact
- I suffered severe anxiety, depression, and humiliation from months of discriminatory treatment and institutional neglect.
- I lost a full academic term, tuition fees, childcare expenses, and work income.
- My lifelong dream of becoming a registered nurse — built on compassion, resilience, and service — was derailed by an institution that refused to uphold its own standards.
We Are Demanding Justice and Accountability
We, the undersigned, call upon St. Clair College and the Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities to:
- Publicly acknowledge and apologize to Adesola for the discrimination and harm endured.
- Provide fair compensation for the emotional, academic, and financial damages caused by both Professor’s actions and the college’s negligence.
- Conduct an independent human-rights investigation into the conduct of Professor and St. Clair College’s administrative response.
- Implement mandatory anti-racism, equity, and trauma-informed training for all faculty, administrators, and deans.
- Establish transparent, student-protective policies to ensure that no one faces retaliation or dismissal of their complaints again.
Why This Matters
This is not just my story — it is the story of every student of colour, immigrant, or marginalized learner who dares to dream in Canada’s education system.
- Discrimination in colleges doesn’t just destroy grades; it destroys confidence, dignity, and futures.
- Every student deserves to learn in safety, respect, and fairness.
- By signing this petition, you stand with me to demand justice, accountability, and change at St. Clair College — and to make sure what happened to me never happens again to anyone else.
