On March 20, 2025, 36-year-old Aaron Rainey was murdered by Philadelphia Police Officers while experiencing a mental health crisis. What makes this tragedy all the more infuriating was that Aaron requested to be taken to Friends Hospital in order to receive treatment. Rather than being met with care and understanding, Aaron Rainey was met with violence. The original story the Philadelphia Police Department told was that Aaron Rainey shot at one of the officers with their guns which necessitated brutal force. However, follow up reports confirmed that it was the senior officer who shot his partner in the ballistic vest.

      What makes this injustice completely unacceptable because it shows that the Philadelphia Police deceived it's "citizens"; as part of the settlement the city of Philadelphia reached with Walter Wallace's family, the PPD agreed to equip all of it's officers with tasers and other non-deadly weapons to ensure that a tragedy like Walter Wallace's murder will never happen again.  Well it did happen again, not once with Eddie Iriziarry, but twice with Aaron Rainey.

    It's been months since Aaron Rainey was taken from his family and friends and not only are the names of BOTH of the officers who committed this crime not known to the public(only one of the officers names are known, Thomas Thompson), but the officers' bodycam footage has not been released to the public. In addition, the offical autopsy has not been revealed, allowing the PPD to manufacture a narrative however they see fit.  By withholding these, the Philadelphia Police Department is pulling the wool over the eyes of not only Aaron Rainey's family, but over those of all the citizens of Philadelphia who are entitled to complete transparency from the police, who are paid with Philadelphian's tax dollars to "serve and protect."

     The Philadelphia Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression demands the release of not only the names and likenesses of both of the police officers involved in Aaron Rainey's murder, but the bodycam footage as well as the autopsy. The time is now for the PPD to hold themselves completely accountable for their lack of openness. The games end now.
