Justice for 200 Animals Rescued from Horrific Conditions in Hamblen County

The Issue

In one of the worst hoarding cases Hamblen County has seen, nearly 200 animals — including dogs, cats, chickens, rabbits, and even a goat — were rescued from a home in a subdivision.

Animals were found in overcrowded, unsanitary, and inhumane conditions. Many were suffering from neglect. Two residents are now facing animal cruelty charges, but this case is about more than prosecution — it’s about ensuring this never happens again.

We call on:

  • The Hamblen County District Attorney to prosecute this case to the fullest extent of the law
  • County and city officials to increase permanent support for the Morristown Hamblen Humane Society
  • The Tennessee State Legislature to consider statewide reforms to prevent and intervene earlier in animal hoarding situations

The Morristown Hamblen Humane Society, already at max capacity, stepped up in a heroic way — taking in over 50 of the rescued animals and coordinating foster care and emergency sheltering. Staff, volunteers, and community members worked into the early hours of the morning to help.

The Humane Society is now fundraising $100,000 for an urgently needed building expansion. County and city leaders have agreed to match that amount — but they need help to get there.

This petition is not just about justice for what was done — it’s about protecting animals going forward.

Let’s:

Support the shelter and rescue workers who stepped up
Demand justice for the 200 animals who endured suffering
Strengthen the system so this never happens again.

Sign this petition to demand accountability, support the Humane Society’s expansion, and help ensure that no animal in Hamblen County suffers this way again.
