The issue

Dear Presidents of Our Member Organisations,

On behalf of the Federation of Indian Communities of Queensland (FICQ), we extend our warmest regards and sincere appreciation for your continued commitment to strengthening Queensland’s multicultural fabric.

Today, we invite you to stand with us in support of a landmark initiative — the House of India Project. This visionary project aims to create a lasting legacy for generations to come — a home for culture, community, and collaboration — and we need your voice to bring this vision to life.

Why the House of India Matters

1. A Symbol of Unity and Heritage

The House of India will be a vibrant, physical embodiment of the enduring bond between India and Australia. As one of the fastest-growing communities in Queensland, the Indian diaspora is ready for a dedicated space where we can preserve heritage, celebrate culture and unite communities from all walks of life. It will stand as a beacon of Queensland’s leadership in multicultural inclusion and harmony.

2. Empowering Communities Through Infrastructure

FICQ has secured a commitment of land at Mt Juillerat Drive, Augustine Heights (Lot 35 on SP283508, 1,500 sq m) from the Springfield City Group, with paperwork already underway. This $17 million community project will house:

  • A state-of-the-art community hall (700–800 capacity)
  • Medium and small meeting rooms
  • A fully equipped community kitchen
  • Multi-use spaces for community organisations
  • Indoor sports facilities such as badminton and more

It is not just a building — it is a shared investment in our collective future.

3. Strengthening Business and Cultural Connections

Beyond cultural events, the Indian House will also serve as a central hub for Indian businesses, professionals, and community organisations. It will foster innovation, cross-cultural collaboration, and open doors for economic empowerment through networking and trade opportunities.

Momentum is Building — Let’s Seize This Opportunity

  • Bipartisan Support: FICQ has secured pledges of $5.5 million from both major political parties, contingent on their election outcomes.

  • State Government Commitment: FICQ has also received an expression of support from the Queensland Multicultural Connect Grants program, which can provide up to $500,000.
  • Next Step: Long-Term Lease Application
  • We are now applying for the Ipswich City Council tender for a long-term lease over Lot 33 (Lot 33 on SP283508, 5,000 sq m at 12 Mt Juillerat Drive, Augustine Heights). This is a critical step to secure a more extensive site for the House of India.

To strengthen our application, we are asking you — our member organisations — to sign this petition and stand in support of this transformative project.

Together, We Can Build a Legacy

As a proud member of FICQ, your endorsement will demonstrate our collective resolve to invest in a shared space that reflects the strength, diversity, and dynamism of our community. Let us come together to shape a place that will inspire generations and amplify our voice in the multicultural landscape of Queensland.

Please sign the petition and show your support today.
