Join the historical movement – Somaliland recognition contributes to a stronger Africa.

The Issue

By signing this petition it places you on the right side of history. It is crucial for the AU and international nations to formally acknowledge Somaliland and REJECT any 3rd party countries like Turkey/Djibouti/Egypt who are supporting the forceful illegal union for their own benefit.

  • Somaliland, home to nearly 7 million citizens, enjoyed formal recognition from 35 nations pre Somalia annexation.
    - Despite a brief incorporation into a spurious union with Somalia, a state grappling with instability, Somaliland has demonstrated noteworthy accomplishments. These include the absence of piracy, effective control against illegal human trafficking to Europe, the establishment of a robust government, a proficient military, democratic electoral processes, foreign investments, and regional stability in the Red Sea waters under the vigilant watch of the Somaliland navy.
    - In stark contrast, Somalia, a beneficiary of substantial international aid, grapples with security challenges posed by terrorist networks like Al-Shabaab, undermining the progress achieved by Somaliland.

We are proud Somalilander’s, deeply connected to our homeland and its people. Our history is marked by resilience, as we have endured one of the most horrific genocides committed by an occupying dictatorship based on tribal alliances. Despite these trials, we have remained steadfast in our pursuit of prosperity and rightful recognition.

Since 1991, Somaliland has autonomously governed itself following a 30-year conflict and has reinstated its sovereignty with no influence outside of the Somaliland government. Prior to 1961, it existed as an independent nation distinct from Somalia.

Despite Somalia's awareness of these historical facts, it hesitates to engage in international legal avenues. Sign this petition today and support the only peaceful Somali nation.

Somaliland is rated one of the highest in democracy and stability in Africa but remains internationally unrecognized. This lack of recognition hampers our ability to engage in international trade, secure aid and investment necessary for development. It also undermines our efforts to ensure the safety of the Red Sea - a crucial global shipping route.

Recognising Somaliland internationally would not only uphold justice but also contribute significantly towards realizing the pan-African dream of a strong East Africa. As peace-loving citizens who believe in this vision, it is time we call upon all African nations and international partners and particularly those in East Africa to officially recognize Somaliland.

By doing so, they will be supporting stability within their region and contributing towards global maritime security through ensuring safety along the Red Sea route. Furthermore, they will be acknowledging our resilience against adversity and affirming our right place within Africa and the world at large.

Let us stand together for justice, regional strength, maritime security and above all - recognition for Somaliland's rightful place among nations.

Somaliland's undeniable right to international recognition is grounded in its well-documented legitimacy, supported by legal evidence. Recognized before an ill-fated union, which later evolved into an annexation, the subsequent tragic events unfolded as a documented genocide. It is imperative for the international community to acknowledge and rectify this historical injustice by granting Somaliland the recognition it rightfully deserves.
