Senator Bernie Sanders is asking us to sign a petition in support of a Single-Payer Health Care system. He is also asking people to share ideas and stories with him, and is promissing to bring many of these stories to the Senate floor. We *all* should support him.

This action on change.org has two parts:

(1) Each participant should go to the link bellow and sign the original petition showing direct support for Senator Sanders action. This could have a great impact as he is a strong advocate of a Single-Payer Health Care system and our support would help him bring the issue to the Senate floor.

(2) Sign the change.org petition which is quoting from Senator Sanders letter and which will be sent to President Obama and our representatives. The purpose is to show the grass-root support for the SP system at the time the Senator Sanders and others need our help to push for it in the Senate.

Here are some facts taken from the petition letter. I quote:

46 million Americans are currently without health insurance;

60 million Americans, both insured and uninsured, have inadequate access to primary care due to a shortage of physicians and other health service providers in their community;

100 million Americans have no insurance to cover dental needs;

116 million adults, nearly two-thirds of all non-seniors, struggled to pay medical bills, went without needed care because of cost, were uninsured for a time, or were underinsured in the last year;

The United States spends $2.3 trillion each year on health care, 16 percent of its Gross Domestic Product;

Americans spend $7,129 per person on health care, 50 percent more than other industrialized countries, including those with universal care;

The U.S. does not get what it pays for.  We rank among the lowest in the health outcome rankings of developed countries, and on several major indices rank below some third-world nations;

The number of health insurance industry bureaucrats has grown at 25 times the growth of physicians in the past 30 years;

In 2006, the six largest insurance companies made $11 billion in profits even after paying for direct health care costs, administrative costs and marketing costs.

Let me add to this that the fact that a Single-Payer system is by far the most cost effective is not even disputed by most of its opponents. If you listen carefully what they are saying is that the system will lower the cost to our health care so much that it will drive the private insurance industry out of business.
Well, that is the problem then, the "right" of the insurance industry to make the unlimited profits is considered, by these gentleman (saddly, some of them are Democrats), more important then the civil right of the Americans to have a comprehensive and affordable  health care.
