End discrimination at Langley Grammar School.

End discrimination at Langley Grammar School.
The Issue
Misogyny has been deeply rooted into the education at Langley Grammar School for decades. Recorded experiences involving former female students of Langley Grammar School can be dated back ten years, and new ones continue to arise involving girls who attend today. It has affected my own daughter. This behaviour is intolerable and must be stopped immediately.
A former student of Langley Grammar School has recently (as of mid-March 2021) written a letter to the headteacher and senior staff of the school in the form of a Google Document. It has allowed the anonymous sharing of some of these experiences. Hundreds of encounters were added in only a matter of days, as well as hundreds of signatures. This letter was sent, but the only response received in relation to it was denigration, and that students themselves are responsible for talking to their classmates or peers if their behaviour is inappropriate. Since this reply is grossly inadequate, I am taking further action through other means, and ask for your support so that together, we can create a lasting impact on the future of Langley Grammar.
It is alarming to know that misogyny is not the only form of discrimination persisting within the grounds of Langley Grammar. You will be faced with racism and bigotry if you enter the courtyard or other social areas. The school will entertain your concern but do little to effectively punish the misbehaviour. It is insufficient to punish racist pupils with an after-school detention. Sexually harassing and assaulting young girls at this school while only being expected to say "sorry" is abhorrent, and we as parents of fellow students or children of any age should not tolerate this.
Examples of improvements we hope to see:
- Reports of serious issues being taken seriously.
- The relaxation of the incomparable strictness of girls' uniform rules compared to boys' uniform rules.
- Staff confronting misogyny and prejudice instead of ignoring them.
- The school's younger students (especially male) being educated on said issues in order to minimise challenges they or others may face later in their school years, careers or lives.
- The Personal and Citizenship Studies (PCS) curriculum being broadened, unbiased, and taught more often.
Langley Grammar, we demand that change ensues. We refuse to be silenced any longer, and we are taking action into our own hands. This must end at once.
Sincerely,
Jon Spieling
