Arkansas Senators, Respect the Election Outcome
The Issue
On Saturday November 7th, the 2020 Presidential Election was called for Joseph Biden. The Associated Press, Fox News, CNN, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Washington Post, ABC, NBC, CBS, and the Arkansas Democrat Gazette have all acknowledged that Biden has won the election.
Many public officials and world leaders have also called to congratulate Biden on his victory - George W Bush, Mitt Romney, John McCain's Widow, the Israeli and the British Prime Minster, and so on. Acknowledging the election results is not a partisan nor a political act. Congratulating the President-Elect on his election victory doesn't mean one is happy about the results - Hillary Clinton congratulated Donald Trump in 2016, John McCain congratulated Obama in 2008, and Al Gore congratulated George Bush in 2000.
In spite of this, neither Arkansas Senator has acknowledged the 2020 election results (at least as of evening on Sunday November 8th). We call on upon Senators Boozman and Cotton to immediately publicly recognize that Americans have elected Joseph Biden to be the next President of the United States.
Even though Arkansans decidedly voted in favor of reelecting President Trump, and regardless of whether we supported Trump, Biden, or anyone else, we ask for our Senators to exercise leadership, demonstrate patriotism, and respect America's choice by publicly recognizing the election results.
Our elected officials swore an oath to protect the Constitution. Abroad and at home, countless Americans have died to protect our democracy. By ignoring the outcome of the election, our Senators are disrespecting these sacrifices and threatening our democracy.
Our country is facing unprecedented crises without a disputed election. Our Senators should not put our country through further turmoil.
In addition to signing this petition, please contact either Senator's office by phone or email.
