Daylight savings time is an antiquated concept and unnecessary hassle. We’re still fighting a pandemic which has left an enormous amount of people traumatized, stressed, financially unstable, isolated. In a time when an increasing number of individuals are working from home via internet and interacting on a regular basis with other individuals and entities in other time zones, it adds a further layer of confusion and reinforces the fact the DST concept is no longer needed or beneficial.

Lest us also take into account that some locales do not participate in DST, adding yet another opportunity for confusion. This was readily apparent this week in my business sector when a subcontractor maintenance technician was booked for a job with a 30 minute maintenance window. The technician showed an hour late and missed the maintenance window because the operations center that booked him was in a state with DST while the state in which he was booked for work was in a state without DST. This resulted in substantial financial loss and productivity for all involved parties, and there was no recourse.

DST results in countless losses like the circumstance above and also lends to depression in a society currently perilously rife with it, decreased productivity, decreased social interaction, disruption to sleeping/eating habits, seasonal affective disorder, fewer hours for outdoor activities, increased energy consumption, and plethora other negative side effects.

End DST NOW. West Virginia will be better for it.
