Could you imagine your child's lifelong babysitters going to court and filing for custody of your child and getting it? In your disbelief you hire an attorney and hope this nightmare is some Orwellian mistake, but while you're under anesthesia your paid attorney just signs your kid away.

It's happening right now with 8 families in Eastern Washington alone but the focus is on one particularly egregious case. Over 650 court actions and half a million dollars later they still don't have their child. CPS has went to court for the parents because they felt the child was being groomed and possibly sexually abused by one of the babysitters.

So how did this happen? A little known set of laws called 3rd Party Custody, or De Facto Parentage which was meant to protect the rights of Grandparents and long term caretakers is being used to kidnap children and seize the parents assets.

When your child is taken by Child Protective Services you have certain rights and they have the burden of proving you are an unfit parent, you also get a clear plan to reunite with your children. This does not apply to the 3rd Party Custody/De Facto Parentage. You have no constitutional rights in this situation

We need to let our lawmakers know that they must change the language to put these laws under the rule of CPS so that this doesn't happen to more families.
