Why this petition matters

Started by Jay Keith

My name is Jay Keith from North Smithfield RI. In an attempt to turn my frustrations in to action, I am writing you today to offer an opinion for your consideration on the topic of Social Media.

I am of the belief that if you open a business, you have a right to refuse service. With this in mind, I believe that Twitter, Facebook and other Social Media companies are well within their rights to ban users from their platforms.

Where I believe there is room for state and federal protections is the outcome of banning users. If tech companies ban you... they should also be forced by law to DELETE ALL DATA of the user.  The sites are FREE because they use and sell your data in exchange for access. If they can ban you and then keep using the historical data for political purposes, I think we have a REAL problem. I see a dangerous trend of big tech companies and social media platforms using archived data for politics and propaganda.

My idea is "Leave No Trace: The American Social Media Protection Act". This would be a federal law that states if a tech company bans you from their platform, they have to delete the profile in its entirety as if it never existed or be forced to lift the ban.

Respectfully,

Jay Keith- Concerned Citizen
