David Cicilline is an American politician who has been serving as the U.S. Representative for Rhode Island's 1st congressional district since 2011. A member of the Democratic Party, Cicilline previously held the role of the 36th Mayor of Providence from 2003 to 2011, and is one of the few openly gay members of Congress. He is known for his dedication to civil rights, namely for his advocacy of LGBTQ+ rights, his pro-choice stance, and his positions on gun control. Cicilline's political service and influence have earned him membership in the House Judiciary Committee as well as the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
