Support Mandatory Domestic Violence Training for Public Leaders & Responders

Support Mandatory Domestic Violence Training for Public Leaders & Responders
The Issue
Gabby Petito’s death was tragic. Sadly 3 women are killed each day in the United States by their intimate partners. Oftentimes first responders to abuse (police, firefighters, doctors, clergy, attorneys & judges) lack proper training in this important arena.
In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we're calling on the United States Congress to create a law requiring annual domestic violence training for all police, firefighters, doctors, clergy, attorneys & judges. We simply can no longer afford to allow this abusive pandemic to thrive while we sit back and hope for change. It’s time to be the change!
Why is this personal to me? I was the pastor of a woman named Stacy Peterson. She told me that her husband killed his previous wife, Kathleen Savio. Two months later, Stacy disappeared and has never been found. Since then, I’ve learned to be an advocate for victims and have been able to help many get free from their abusers.
I know firsthand what it feels like to not know how to help victims. Each day, I wish I could go back in time to help Stacy Peterson with what I know now. Since I can’t do that, I’ll press forward and honor her and Gabby and all the other victims of abuse by calling for change.
