Is the Federal Government Quietly Allowing the Gold Coast Quarry to Proceed ?
The issue
In 2014, the quarry proposal received conditional approval under the EPBC Act. However, that approval included a critical safeguard:
If the project did not commence within 5 years, it must not proceed without the written agreement of the Minister.
More than a decade has now passed. The quarry has not commenced as it was defeated in court, principally becasue it involved Koala's and Koala Habitat.
This raises a serious and straightforward question:
Has the required written Ministerial approval been granted — yes or no?
If it has:
Where is that approval?
When was it issued?
On what environmental basis, given that key species such as the koala are now listed as endangered?
If it has not:
How can this project be considered capable of proceeding at all?
This is not a minor technicality. It goes to the heart of whether federal environmental law is being properly applied and enforced.
The community deserves transparency, accountability, and confidence that environmental protections are not being bypassed.
