I am writing this petition from a place of deep personal pain and concern. I lost a brother to gang violence in 2022, and a significant portion of my family has been displaced from their neighborhood due to the same issue. The situation in Haiti is dire, with gangs taking control of the country, causing fear and chaos among its citizens.

Haiti has been grappling with an increase in gang violence for years now. According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), there were 1,380 homicides recorded in Haiti during 2019 alone - a number that is likely higher due to underreporting (UNODC Global Study on Homicide 2019). This level of violence has led many Haitians to live in constant fear for their lives.

El Salvador, having successfully reduced its own high levels of gang-related crime through innovative strategies such as community policing and social programs aimed at youth (source: International Crisis Group report "El Salvador's Politics of Perpetual Violence", December 2017), could provide invaluable assistance.

We believe that inviting El Salvador's intervention could lead to significant improvements in security within Haiti. Their experience dealing with similar issues could be instrumental in helping us regain control over our neighborhoods from these violent gangs.

We urge our government and international bodies like the United Nations, as well as national governments around the world who value peace and human rights, to support this call for El Salvador's intervention. By doing so we can work towards creating safer communities for all Haitians.
