As social media users who care about our data safety, we ask the FBI and the Department of Commerce to investigate WeChat, Weibo and other CCP-controlled APPs and limit their usage in the USA if they prove to threaten our data safety and national security.

It is an open secret among WeChat users in Mainland China and overseas that this multi-function APP helps the Chinese communist government collect the speech, online shopping, facial recognition information, and whereabouts of its users. Almost every user has experience of WeChat banning their group chats, limiting the accessibility of their post on “WeChat Moments”, or even deleting their accounts if the WeChat system decides their group chats or posts are “harmful”. There are many signs indicating that WeChat may monitor the activity of other software/APPs. The CCP surveillance police can literally read every word you posted and every byte of data you created on WeChat. They use the information to pinpoint potential dissidents and will spare no effort to harass and intimidate them and their family. WeChat is a powerful tool of Orwellian surveillance and oppression of free speech and so are many other CCP-Controlled APPs.
